Our Managing Director, Abdulaziz M.A. Mansur and Acting Executive Director, Hajjat Joweria Mukalazi, paid a courtesy visit to the home of Dr. Hajj Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu in Kibuli to extend the bank's deepest condolences to the family, Muslim community and the entire nation for the loss of our beloved mother, Hajjat Sarah Kakungulu.
Dr. Hajj Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, a former Executive Director of Tropical Bank Limited, is a pillar of strength and leadership, not only for the bank but also for the Muslim community in Uganda. The loss of his mother, Hajjat Sarah Kakungulu, is profoundly felt by all of us.
May Allah be pleased with her deeds, pardon her short comings and grant her the highest place of abode in Jannat Al-Firdaus.
We also pray that the Almighty Allah grants the family courage, strength and comfort during this trying time. Inna Lillahi Wahina Illaihi Raji'un.

As part of our commitment to support the education sector, our Corporate Relationship Manager, Mr. Kasirye Muhammad, visited Bilal Islamic Institute-Kakiri after the unfortunate fire that destroyed the girls' dormitory. During the visit, he engaged in discussions with the Deputy Principal, Hajj Karunda Musa, about initiatives to support the school. In alignment with the bank’s corporate social responsibility, Tropical Bank donated 100 bags of cement to aid in the reconstruction of the affected dormitory.
He pointed out Tropical Bank's Education Sector Customer Value Proposition, designed to address key challenges schools face, such as the lack of seamless school fee collection methods, short-term budgetary gaps, inadequate infrastructure, and transportation issues for students. The bank offers up to UGX 500 million in unsecured school bridge financing, in addition to funding for school expansion, vehicle purchases, and asset acquisition that can help Bilal Islamic Institute-Kakiri achieve its goals. Summary of the Education CVP includes; • Affordable school account with no management fees.
• Unsecured loan amounts of up to Ugx 500M based on banking with Tropical Bank.
• Seamless school fees collection through our Mobile App, internet banking, agent banking, and school Pay.
• Access to financing for school expansion, vehicle, and asset acquisition.
• Salary loans to teachers and staff of up to Ugx 350M
. • Contract financing and invoice discounting to suppliers and contractors of schools.
He also assured the school and the public that the bank is in the final stages of launching Islamic banking. The Sharia Advisory Board has already been approved by the Bank of Uganda and Islamic banking will be available soon—rest assured to serve all their financial needs.

It was a spectacular grand finale performance, highlighted by a stunning hat trick from Tropical bank’s top scorer Aaron Kamwada, as the Professionals registered wins to claim the Football championship title in this year’s Corporate Sports Network (@corporates256) tournament. The team emerged victorious with an impressive total of 91 points. The Grand Finale was hosted at Luzira Sports Ground and brought together 35 corporate teams competing in various disciplines, including football, swimming, volleyball, basketball, Athletics, Sack race, and pool table.
At the finals, Yunus Babuwaire, Head Business and Acting Head Coach for the Tropical Bank Professionals, expressed his gratitude during his speech. He commended the team for their dedication and thanked management for their unwavering support. Recognizing the team captain -Musoke Stanley’s extraordinary impact. Yunus emphasized how sports foster camaraderie among Tropical Bank staff and build valuable connections with other corporate entities. “We need to carry the spirit we showed throughout the league into our work, collaborating to transform Tropical Bank into a better place,” Yunus stated.
Katende Isaac, Manger Sales Coordination and Sports Manager at Tropical Bank, highlighted the benefits of participating in the Corporate Sports Network. Our Managing Director, Abdulaziz Mohamed A. Mansur and Acting Executive Director, Ms. Joweria Mukalazi, hosted a delegation from the Association of National Development Finance Institutions in Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank (ADFIMI), led by Secretary General Mr. Ilhami Ozturk.
The purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration aimed at transforming and enhancing the Ugandan economy. The Bank intends to collaborate with ADFIMI to strengthen key sectors, including Agriculture, Trade, Education and Environmental sustainability. We are accelerating the implementation of Islamic banking to promote financial inclusion for all Ugandans.

Our Bank sponsored and participated in the 30th Thanawi Graduation Ceremony at Naggalama Islamic Institute, Naggalama. The event was honored by several distinguished guests, including Deputy Mufti Sheikh Kivumbi Bukenya.
At the event, our Acting Executive Director, Ms. Joweria Mukalazi, emphasized the bank's strong commitment to supporting educational initiatives through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. She congratulated the graduandsand prayed for God’s blessing of barakah upon their achievements. Ms. Mukalazi encouraged the graduands to stay disciplined and follow the way of life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), illustrating that this is the only way to achieve long-term success in this world. She also commended Haflah Yassin on obtaining the top position.
Ms. Mukalazi reassured the institute and the public that the bank is in the final stages of launching Islamic banking with top-quality products and services that offer responsible financial solutions in line with Islamic principles. Tropical Bank is proud to support government initiatives aimed at promoting social and economic transformation. We are glad to have sponsored the Office of the President Program for Interfaith and Civil Society Forum for Peace and Development (ICSP) that was launched on the 10th September 2024. The project aims to empower Ugandans in the 17 parishes of Mityana district with funding and developmental programs from office of the president.
While at the launch, our Head of Business, Mr. Yunus Babuwaire emphasized the bank’s commitment to Social economic transformation through financing agriculture at affordable rates as low as 12%, financing traders as well as implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives in underserved communities. As a commitment to support growth of the education sector in Uganda, our Head of Business, Mr. Yunus Babuwaire, held a financial literacy session with proprietors of schools under the Uganda Muslim Teachers Association. The session focused on improving cash flow management, creating alternative revenue lines, diversifying investment opportunities in the education sector and instilling personal finance discipline. This took place at the Uganda Muslim Teachers’ Association (UMTA) AGM and education conference at the ENRO Hotel in Mityana.
At UMTA, he unveiled Tropical Bank’s Education sector customer value proposition, which addresses key challenges schools face like lack of seamless school fees collection methods, short term budgetary gaps, inadequate infrastructure and poor school environment and transport challenges for students/Pupils. The bank can offer up to UPTO Ugx 500M UNSECURED as school bridge financing. This is in addition to financing school expansion, vehicle and asset acquisition.

The Libyan embassy headed by HE ambassador Ibrahim Ahmed Sultan hosted Management and staff of tropical bank at the Libyan embassy for a breakfast engagement on 23rd may 2024.
This follows the banks improved performance coming from loss making positions since 2018 to two years of successive profitability in 2022 and 2023 and a good start of 2024.
H.E ambassador Ibrahim highlighted that tropical bank is one of the many key investments the Libyan government has made in Uganda as a sign of the great friendship among the two governments. He thanked the current Board Chairman Mr Ibrahim Ssenyonga, Management and staff of Tropical for steering the bank back to profitability. He also thanked the government of Uganda for committing more capital injection into tropical bank and confirmed Libya’s commitment to invest more capital in tropical bank.
Speaking at the event, the Managing director of tropical bank, Abdulaziz Mohamed A. MANSUR thanked the Libyan and Ugandan government for harmonising the position of shareholding and the capital injection they have made that will see the bank become compliant to Bank of Uganda regulations on Tier 1 commercial bank capital positions.
He noted that the bank embarked on the new 5-year strategic plan which began in 2024 to 2028 which will see the bank make tremendous changes in People and work culture, Risk Management, operational efficiency, business growth and Excellent customer experience.
The bank is also at the tail end of obtaining the Islamic banking license from bank of Uganda that will enable it drive financial inclusion at affordable rates.
The Executive director Ms Joweria Mukalazi applauded the management team of tropical bank for the commitment to implement the strategic changes. She appreciated the Libyan and Ugandan government for providing the capital and other support that has seen the bank bounce back to profitability. She assured the customers and stakeholders of tropical bank that the bank is committed to providing professional and personalised services to its clientele. The bank has invested in a robust core banking system with Omini channel capabilities to drive seamless digital banking through our online platforms, agents and branch network. The bank also invested in SMART ATMs that can accept both deposits and withdrawals.
During the 5-year strategic plan, the bank will focus on SME as a key driver for its growth with tailor made customer value propositions in the Education sector, Trade & commerce, Manufacturing and Agriculture. The bank has revamped trade finance proposition to offer bid securities of up to UGX500M unsecured and can support education institutions with up to UGX500M unsecured to meet short term financing needs. The bank also improved the offering for salary loans to up to UGX350M.
To increase its foot print, the bank will open 2 more branches, 8 service centres and a wide network of agent banking points that will compliment existing branch network and digital platforms. The bank is also leveraging its partnerships with partnerships with fintech’s to innovate solutions that drive financial inclusion from the unbanked.
Through bancassurance, the bank has innovated products that enable clients access medical insurance, making investments for the future as well as save for education of their children. Additionally, the bank can adequately mitigate all the risks that clients face during their day-to-day operations.
