INCORPORATION
Tropical Bank Limited (TBL) is a commercial Bank in Uganda, established in 1973 as the Arab Libyan Bank for Foreign Trade & Development. The bank is licensed by the Bank of Uganda (BOU), which serves as the country's central bank.
Tropical Bank Limited – Kampala is a proud member of the Libyan Foreign Bank (LFB) network, which comprises approximately 50 subsidiaries and participations in 23 countries across three continents. Established in 1972, the LFB is wholly owned by the Central Bank of Libya, serving as Libya’s first offshore banking institution licensed to operate internationally.
This extensive network enables Tropical Bank Ltd to benefit from strategic collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint initiatives with its sister institutions under the LFB umbrella—enhancing its ability to deliver comprehensive banking solutions tailored to both regional and international client needs.

Ownership
Tropical Bank Limited is jointly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda 4.397% and the Libyan Foreign Bank (LFB) 95.603% of Paid-up Capital.
Reasons for Existence
To provide professional and personalized commercial banking services to various sectors of the economy including financial support to Parastatals, Corporates, Small and Medium Enterprises, Individuals, and Non-Governmental Organisations
Change of Name
In 1994, the bank’s name was changed from Libyan Arab Uganda Bank for Foreign Trade and Development to Tropical Africa Limited and in May 2006, it was changed to Tropical Bank Limited
